Downward force upon the sensor causes resistive change due to compressive pressure. Gives degree of sensitivity in applications for gaming as well in associated gaming input devices (i.e. the more force you apply the faster you punch, run, fire).

Pressure-sensitivity can be advantageous for graphic designers, illustrators when drawing on design applications, e.g. when drawing lines, variable stroke thickness can be registered. Less components to manufacture, import and assemble.
