After graduating, I knew I wanted to look for a role in the materials chemistry industry to apply the skills gained during my studies. I chose Peratech as it seemed like a fast-paced business environment and a great place to use my university knowledge for real-world problem-solving. I am excited to have just started a year-long placement for 2021/2022.
In my role, I am currently working on the design and implementation of novel materials for the next generation of piezoresistive sensors for force sensing solutions. In addition, I'm spending a lot of time in the lab synthesising and characterising new composites materials to deduce their suitability for force sensing applications.
I am enjoying the collaborative nature of the project, in particular the stimulating team discussions. These involve people from really diverse backgrounds, bringing new perspectives to the project. It is rewarding working in a team where your input is valued, even if I am new to the company.
My project has built on some concepts studied during my degree whilst also giving me a much deeper understanding of some elements of physics and electronics. I have enjoyed the continual learning process, and I am very excited to see what the next year brings. I'm looking forward to developing skills and gaining experience to help me progress in my career.
