Simulation Scientist

UK Opportunity



We are seeking a talented and innovative Simulation Scientist to join our R&D team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in engineering or physics, with extensive experience in Finite Element Analysis (FEA) multi-physics simulation tools. In addition to working with commercial simulation software, this role will involve the development of custom simulation tools to address specific challenges unique to our products. Proficiency in Python programming is a must, as the candidate will be responsible for scripting, automation, and tool development.  

Duties and Responsibilities

Works individually or within teams to support and accomplish the following:

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define simulation objectives and requirements. 
  • Utilize commercial FEA multi-physics simulation tools to perform mechanical and electrical simulations and analyses.  
  • Develop and implement custom simulation tools, to address project-specific requirements and challenges, and design and packaging these tools to enable use by non-specialists. 
  • Analyse simulation results and provide actionable insights to guide product development and optimization. 
  • Provide technical guidance and support to team members on simulation-related tasks and projects. 
  • Maintain and update existing simulation models and tools to ensure accuracy and relevance. 
  • Manage collaborations with external simulation partners to leverage specialized expertise and resources for project-specific simulation needs. 
  • Keep abreast of advancements in simulation methodologies, tools, and technologies, and integrates relevant innovations into our practices. 
  • Support additional R&D tasks as required. 

Essential Education, Experience, and Skills

  • A master’s degree in engineering, physics, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Demonstrated expertise in FEA multi-physics simulation tools (e.g., ANSYS, COMSOL, ABAQUS).
  • Proven experience in developing or customizing simulation tools and workflows.
  • Proficiency in Python programming for scripting, automation, and tool development.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex simulation data.
  • Can balance idealism and pragmatism to achieve the best result for the available timescales, data, and tools available.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team environment.
  • A drive to teach others and improve their skills in areas they are passionate about and familiar with.

Desirable Education, Experience, and Skills

  • Experience simulating or developing touch sensing or haptics technologies. 
  • Familiarity with SPICE electrical simulation tools and netlists. 
  • Experience developing applications with graphical user interfaces using Python. 
  • Familiarity with machine learning techniques for simulation optimization or data-driven modeling. 
  • Experience working with CAD software (e.g. SOLIDWORKS). 
  • Experience in simulation validation and verification methodologies to ensure accuracy and reliability of results. 
  • Familiarity with data visualization techniques and tools for effective communication of results. 
  • Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git) for collaborative development and management of code. 
  • Proficiency in numerical methods and algorithms relevant to simulation applications. 

Employment Type

  • Full-time, permanent employment 
  • The role is predominantly remote but with the expectation of attending our R&D facility (NETPark, Sedgefield, UK) on a fortnightly basis. The specific balance of hybrid working is open for negotiation with the successful candidate and Peratech aims to flexibly accommodate personal circumstances. 
  • The successful candidate must have the right to work in the UK from commencement of employment. 


£35,000 to £45,000 pa depending on experience.
